Just like everything else on your wedding day, your hair should be PERFECT, right? Right! We all know that moment when you take the perfect picture… but there is that ONE piece of hair sticking awkwardly to your cheek. Even worse is the one stray curl that likes to magically stand up on its own! To avoid any hair nightmares on your special day, we have compiled a list of DO’s and DON’Ts when it comes to all things wedding hair!
DO: Keep it simple and keep it YOU
DON’T: Overthink!
In order to look your best for your wedding day, you need to look like YOU! Drastically changing your hair just for your wedding day can be risky. Own what you have! Remember, simplicity is elegant. Easy curls can go a long ways!
DO: Freshen it up!
DON’T: Change hair color.
If you get your hair colored, schedule your appointment close to the big day for a fresh look. Avoid any extreme colors that you haven’t tried before! You may not like it and it would be too late or too hard on your hair to change it back.
DO: Make a hair plan and PRACTICE
DON’T: Wing it.
If you are hiring a stylist or even having a family member do your hair, schedule a time to meet beforehand. This will allow you to figure out what you like and what you don’t like, what works and what doesn’t. If you are doing your own hair, set aside time to practice and troubleshoot any issues. Your wedding day is going to be busy and the last thing you want to worry about is your hair!
DO: Match the style of your hair to your dress
DON’T: Choose a hairstyle that will cover or get in the way of your dress
If your gown has incredible beading across the back and you have really long hair, having your hair down might not be the best. Wearing your hair up or even pulling the curls to lay on your shoulder would allow you to show off your dress.
DO: Have a wedding day hair crew
DON’T: Plan on your hair staying perfect all day.
On your wedding day, you are the celebrity! Ask some of your wedding party to help maintain your gorgeous look throughout the day. Your crew will be especially helpful during pictures!
DO: Accessorize!
DON’T: Forget about the veil
Does your look need an extra umph? Consider accessorizing! Flowers, flower crowns, beaded headbands, and rhinestones may give your look just what it needs. If you are choosing to wear a veil, don’t forget to plan your hair accordingly. Half-backs are great if you are wanting to be able to take your veil out throughout the day.
DO: Use good product!
DON’T: Expect your hair to stay perfectly in place with no hairspray!
Your hair has a big job and it needs all the help it can get. Be sure to use hairspray and other products necessary to keep your perfect do in place!
